  WHO WE ARE

                 The Beginning

PFLAG is an organization of parents, families, allies, of  and LGBTQ+ people who envision a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

In 1973, Jeanne Manford, PFLAG's founder.

Jeanne marched proudly with her husband and son in NYC's Pride Parade, a radical move at the time (image). That was the beginning of PFLAG, supporting families, friends, and loved ones of those who have come out.

Since then, PFLAG has worked to ensure that LGBTQIA+ people are safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved. Its mission has expanded and there are over 300 chapters in the United States.
